PETROS MARKARIS

Petros Markaris is a Greek novelist, playwright, screenwriter and literary translator, residing in Athens. He was born into a mixed Greek-Armenian family and raised in the Greek community of Istanbul. Trained as economist in Vienna he became a full time writer in 1976. His crime novels have been translated into fourteen languages. He is also the co-screen writer of the Greek film-director Theo Angelopoulos. Athens – as a city of immigrants – as well as the life of immigrants in Athens play a key role in his novels.
