Basel Ramsis Labib was born in Cairo. In 1998, he immigrated to Spain where he works as a movie director and film producer. In Egypt Basel used to work as a journalist and in advertising. He also coordinated the first project on violence against Egyptian women. In Spain, he has produced and directed several documentaries, short-films and numerous pieces of video-art. His documentary “The other side… An approach to Lavapies” (2002) is an in-depth portrait of Madrid’s immigrant neighborhood Lavapies. He also teaches, and runs workshops and seminars about documentary films at Spanish and foreign universities.
